This striking beauty is probably best know for her role as Chloe Lane on the daytime drama, Days of our Lives; however, what fans may not know is that Nadia Bjorlin has worked in both music and film. Nadia began her music career at the age of 6 performing with two of her brother in the Bjorlin Trio, according to Nadia-Bjorlin.com. After high school, she joined the cast of Days of our Lives. In 2007, she starred in the independent film, If I Had Known I Was A Genius, which featured Whoopi Goldberg, Sharon Stone and Tara Reid. In addition, she also starred in the film, Redline, with a cast that included Eddie Griffin and Nathan Phillips.
With several upcoming projects ranging from acting to writing to producing, it’s a wonder how Nadia even has time to keep up with the current fashion trends. But, it seems she has come up with her own method of developing her fashion sense over the years, whether it is through her characters keeping up with the times on-screen, or by favoring designers whose fashion works for her body and personality.
Runway Magazine: What fashion trends have you seen evolve on Days of our Lives since you filmed your first episode in November 1999?
Nadia Bjorlin: When I first started, it was cool to wear baby t-shirts, plaid miniskirts, bedazzled accessories, lots of hair ornaments, glitter lip gloss and knee length cardigans! Fashion has evolved on the show as it has in real life. I definitely think fashion is back to feminine, classic and timeless, and what we wear on the show reflects that now.
RM: Has working on Days of our Lives influenced your personal fashion choices?
NB: Absolutely. I’ve realized what works on my body type, which is THE single most important rule to follow in fashion. I don’t believe in wearing current trends if they don’t flatter your body or sensibility. Also, I’ve realized the importance of tailoring your clothes. You can buy an inexpensive dress, have it altered perfectly to your body and make it look like a million bucks.
RM: There is a possibility that you may win a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Whom are you wearing on the red carpet when you attend the awards show in June?
NB: I don’t know yet, but I’ve always had great luck wearing my good friend, Mark Zunino’s designs. I’ve worn his gowns several times, and twice to the Emmy’s so far, so we’ll see. But, I’m open to anything that makes me feel sexy and comfortable.
RM: Who is your favorite designer and why?
NB: I veer towards designers that like to celebrate a womanly shape, like Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Donatella Versace, Machesa (Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig). But I will always have a major love for Tom Ford. Anything he designs is exquisite, and he’s sexy as hell.
RM: What is your favorite clothing / style / outfit?
NB: I’m definitely a dress girl. For every day, I love Black Halo, Diane Von Furstenberg, Nanette Lepore and Trina Turk, to name a few.
RM: What are your summer wardrobe essentials and favorite accessories for the pool / beach?
NB: I’m a big fan of Jamie Kreitman flip flops because they transition beautifully from poolside to dinner. And I can’t live without my SAMA eyewear sunglasses; they’re sexy and the lenses block out all UV light.
RM: What is your favorite style / cut when it comes to swimsuits?
NB: I love Brazilian-style bikinis, I believe all behinds look better in less fabric. Celebrate your curves, cause you’re not fooling anyone by covering it with lots of fabric.
RM: You have worked as an actress in both television and film. Which do you prefer and why?
NB: They’re both challenging in their own ways. In film, you have the luxury of time to develop a character, but also have to be patient because the process takes a lot longer. In film, you do about 2 pages a day; in television, it’s a lot more! Especially daytime, we shoot about 120 pages a day now.
RM: What are your current / upcoming projects?
NB: Besides staying busy on Days of our Lives, I’m also getting ready to shoot season 2 of Venice, an online web series created by the amazing and talented Crystal Chappell and Kim Turrisi. You can find it at VenicetheSeries.com. I’m also excited about launching my own blog on NBC.com this summer about beauty, health and fashion, titled, ‘The Chronicles of Nadia’. I also want to write a book – a coffee table book on beauty, health and fashion. Each and every one of us has a special asset – whether it be our eyes, lips, skin, legs or something that is uniquely beautiful about us, and there are products you can use and things you can do to accent those positive qualities. I’m also working on producing, and writing some TV and film projects that I can be a part of that showcases one of my favorite genres’ – comedy!
