[OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE] The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announced that it has named “Days of our Lives” star Nadia Bjorlin as its official ambassador for this year’s “Light The Night®” Walk. Light The Night is the Society’s annual evening event to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Funds raised support the Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Nationwide, 220 walks are held by the Society’s 60 chapters.
Bjorlin plays Chloe Lane on “Days of our Lives,” which airs on NBC. Chloe is a reclusive musical prodigy who’s the long lost daughter of the vivacious, saucy Nancy Wesley (Patrika Darbo). This summer, Chloe began a battle with leukemia, and the outcome of her illness has yet to be determined. The “Days of our Lives” writing team is working closely with the Society as it advances the plot.
Unfortunately, the battle against this disease is familiar, difficult terrain for Bjorlin. Her father, Swedish maestro Ulf Bjorlin, Sr. passed away from leukemia in 1993. He was renowned for his dramatic musical compositions and conducting prowess, holding posts with the Stockholm Opera, the Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm and Sweden’s National College of Musical Drama. He recorded for EMI and was known for ‘cherishing the artistic and elegant entertainment inherent in serious forms of music.’ Nadia was just 13 when he died.
“My family understands the pain of struggling with a loved one who’s suffering from a blood-related cancer, and we seek to support those who are working to find a cure,” said Bjorlin. “As an ambassador for Light The Night, I’m honored to represent The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and help raise funds for vital research and the patient and family services the Society provides.”
As the official Light The Night Ambassador, Bjorlin will make public appearances on behalf of the Society at key Light The Night Walks. Additionally, she will serve as the spokesperson for a series of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society public service announcements that will air nationally and regionally on NBC Television, the network home to “Days of our Lives.” She’ll also appear on walk entry forms that will be distributed nationally, including in the 450 retail locations of Light The Night partner Mrs. Fields Cookies.
“Nadia is uniquely suited for both of the roles she’s playing right now as Chloe and as our Official Ambassador,” said Dwayne Howell, President and CEO, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “We believe her ability to reach a significant cross-section of the American population will increase participation in and support for Light The Night. We’re happy that Days of our Lives has so thoroughly supported our cause and that Nadia’s come on board.”
Light The Night is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s nationwide evening walk. Walkers carry illuminated balloons?white for survivors and red for supporters. Funds raised will support the Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
